4주간의 한번씩, 학생들로부터 평가되는 강사 평가서에서 강사의 질을 세세하게 체크 하고 있습니다. 평가 내용이 좋지 않는 강사는 주의와 함께 재차 Cornerstone강사 지도 등 철저한 모니터링을 실시합니다.

Course Description and Goals

ESL stands for English as a Second Language. Students learn English grammar, speaking, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation and vocabulary. Cornerstone’s ESL program offers 8 levels of English from Beginner to Upper-Advanced. Cornerstone Academic College understands that studying abroad is a big investment for any student. We also understand that being fluent in English has become an asset for anyone in the job market. With this in mind, Cornerstone is now taking a step further towards a better English education by offering new programs, different from other schools. As a result, we are proud to present our brand new Integrated ESL for Daily Life and the Workplace Program.

  Course Description

Cornerstone’s Business English Program is an 8-week diploma program that includes Intensive language instruction centered on business themes. In the afternoon, students take higher-level electives, or a business elective if it is available.

BUSINESS PRESENTATIONS:
Students conduct business presentations every 4 weeks. Students present what they have learned from their course in front of ESL students and teachers. Business student also receive feedback from the ESL students and their teachers, which helps them to improve their presentation skills.
FIELD TRIPS:
When opportunities arise, students will be taken on field trips during the program to expose them to a true business environment outside the classroom.
CASE STUDIES:
Each unit’s subject matter is followed by a related case study, which gives the student a chance to study real-world problems in detail from multiple viewpoints.

Course Description

Cornerstone Academic College’s Real Speaking Program is an 8-week Diploma Program that allows students to understand how to speak English the way native speakers do. Students learn conversation tips to establish rapport, express opinions and master the art of small talk. Besides learning lots of vocabulary & expressions, students learn all the necessary skills to help them improve speaking abilities in many areas including Casual Speaking, Formal Speaking, Presentation Skills, Pronunciation, Business Speech, and Expressing and supporting opinions. Using what they learn in the course, students can practice with friends outside of class and enjoy speaking English during their stay in Toronto. Taking this speaking-focused course will improve students’ social skills in English.

 Course Description and Goals

Cornerstone’s iBT TOEFL preparation program is designed for students who wish to enter college or university by achieving the required TOEFL score. Our TOEFL Program will help students succeed by improving their TOEFL score. The TOEFL course covers all necessary skills including TOEFL Essays, TOEFL Speaking, TOEFL Reading, TOEFL Listening and TOEFL vocabulary. It also includes a TOEFL practice test in each 4-week session. Students practice at the actual level of the TOEFL test in class everyday; therefore, students can improve their TOEFL skills and understanding of the test day by day. Cornerstone’s computers have “TOEFL practice software” allowing students to practice TOEFL FREE pre-test and to see their strengths and weaknesses.

Who may enroll in TOEFL Program:

  • Students who plan to attend college or university
  • Those who wish to learn academic English for future employment

iBT TOEFL Program Overview:

  • Intensive Program (28 hours per week): 8:45 - 15:45
  • Duration:  12 weeks (4 week registrations are also accepted)
  • Start Date: Official Starting Date (students may be accepted every Monday)
  • Awards: Cornerstone Certificate after 4 weeks of completion

The Purpose

As with the TOEFL, the objective in Cornerstone’s TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) class is to provide content-based methodology coupled with focused drills and reinforcement.

Our program allows for 2 hours of class time per day. Class time is divided equally between Listening Comprehension and Reading Comprehension.  It is necessary that all sections of the TOEIC test be covered each month. Students spend class time engaging in skill-building exercises for all seven sections of the TOEIC.

A practice TOEIC test is given at the end of each month. The students’ scores on this practice test will provide the basis for their monthly assessment.

As well, Cornerstone Academic College is an official TOEIC testing center, and an opportunity to take the official TOEIC test is offered each session.

An important part of TOEIC preparation is giving helpful advice and information about test taking techniques. Therefore, during all exercises, teachers give students feedback and recommendations on how to approach the test.

As with the TOEFL, it is critical to address everyday English usages along with content and theme.

Homework is assigned regularly and taken up in the following class. Problem areas and mistakes are analyzed and learned from.

Requirements:
  • Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 60 on Cornerstone’s Placement Test (Upper-Intermediate level).
  • Candidates must have graduated from high school.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.

 IELTS is the International English Language Testing System which tests English proficiency across the globe. IELTS is offered through more than 500 locations in over 130 countries.

IELTS is accepted by more than 6000 organizations worldwide. These include universities, immigration departments, government agencies, professional bodies and multinational companies.

IELTS has two versions – Academic and General Training. The Academic test is for those who want to study at a post-secondary level in an English-speaking country. The General Training test is for those who want to do work experience or training programs, secondary school or migrate to an English-speaking country. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking tests but different Reading and Writing tests. The Listening is 30 minutes, the Reading 60 minutes, Writing 60 minutes and Speaking 11–14 minutes. The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Listening, Reading and Writing tests are done in one sitting. The Speaking test may be on the same day or up to seven days before or after the other tests.

CORNERSTONE’S ACADEMIC AND GENERAL IELTS PREPARATION PROGRAMS

Cornerstone’s IELTS preparation programs are12-week (4 hours a week) programs designed to help students get their required score on either the Academic or General Training versions of the IELTS test. The Programs cover all four sections of the IELTS test with special emphasis on the writing and speaking sections. Students will learn test taking skills and time management along with language skills.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

All candidates must score at least 50 (Intermediate level) on Cornerstone’s placement test.

Course Description and Goals

Cornerstone Academic College’s TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) program is a 4-week Diploma Program, aimed at individuals who wish to pursue a career in ESL teaching abroad. The course encompasses various theories regarding how language is learned and equips teachers with skills and experience necessary to effectively guide their students into a functioning use of the language through lessons on how to incorporate grammar, listening, reading, writing and pronunciation communicatively into daily lesson plans. By the end of the TESOL program, students are able to teach each English skill separately but at the same time will have learned the integrated methodology which is introduced by TESL Canada as the most modern methodology for teaching English.

Final Thesis Project

A 500-word methodology paper and a thorough lesson plan are required to complete the program.

Course Description and Goals

Cornerstone Academic College’s 4-week Teaching English to Young Children (TEYC) diploma program will provide students with the most effective methods and strategies to help children acquire English as a second language.

Cornerstone Academic College’s TEYC program is an intensive 4-week course that includes 116 hours of in-class instruction, including a supervised teaching practicum. Through lectures, discussions, and evaluations, students learn to build valuable teaching competencies.

By the end of the course, students will have gained not only the theoretical and practical tools for teaching children, but also the independent thinking skills that will continuously help deepen their understanding of language instruction.

Final Thesis Project
A 250 to 500 word methodology paper and a lesson plan with materials are required to complete the program.

Who may enroll in TEYC:

  • ESL teachers who instruct children or adults.
  • Teachers with professional standings.
  • Those with experience working with children outside of a classroom setting.

TEYC Diploma Program Overview:

American TESOL Institute Certificate
Students who successfully complete the program will be awarded a certificate from the American TESOL Institute (ATI), a leader in the global education market for English teacher training.

 

The Work and Study Program provides part-time employment opportunities for students looking for financial compensation as well as a chance to improve their English skills while in Canada. In order to apply for a work visa, students must register with Cornerstone for a minimum of 12 weeks (recommended registration is for 16 weeks). If a student is part of the Work & Study Program, the students’ working hours and duration cannot exceed their in class hours and duration cannot exceed their in class hours and duration. For example, if a student studies for three months they are able to work three months upon completion of their study period. Students are able to work in the following time frames: 4 months of study + 4 months of work = 8 months in total, 5 months of study + 5 months of work = 10 months in total and lastly 6 months of study + 6 months of work = 1 year in total.
